Edward R. Truitt, an accomplished choreographer and performer, is an associate professor of dance at West Texas A&M University, and is the former artistic director of the Lone Star Ballet Company in Amarillo, TX. Truitt, an internationally awarded choreographer and Fulbright Specialist, has over four decades of dance experience. His award winning work has been performed in multiple countries throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
He has performed principal and soloist roles professionally in some of the world’s most recognizable ballets including Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, Swan Lake, and the Nutcracker. Truitt was a principal soloist with the Los Angeles Classical Ballet Company, Santa Barbara Ballet Theatre and Omaha Ballet Theatre. He has also performed in feature films, television, and the professional stage in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Moscow, and Paris. Truitt, who holds a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and an MFA in dance from the University of Oregon, has taught workshops and master classes at universities and dance companies throughout the United States, including at the American College Dance Festival, and the Northwest Drama Conference. His original ballet, Kinetic Ties, was awarded first place for best contemporary ballet and second place for best overall choreography at the Grand Prix Italia International Dance Festival in Cesena, Italy. He was also given the opportunity to set his work, Misguided Faith, on the esteemed Kannon Dance Company in St. Petersburg, Russia.
